There is also an option to include sticky notes on your pages. You could use these to remind yourself of mustn’t-forget to do items but adding an empowering quote on a sticky would be a neat way to motivate yourself on days when enthusiasm is low.
Recording Visual Ideas in zIdeabooks
No creativity notebook would be complete without the addition of images and zIdeabooks allows you to import images from your camera roll and place them on the page in a floating sticky-note type fashion. You can also quickly doodle an idea using the Sketch function.
Text formatting options in zIdeabooks
When you press to insert text, a side bar pops out with a host of formatting options including bulleted lists, red ink, tick marks and other common formatting functions.
zIdeabooks Features Wishlist
While so far, I really like using zIdeabooks as my 'Creative Goals Kit', I have noticed a few glitches in the interface but these will likely be ironed out in future updates. There are also a few missing features such as the ability to reorganise the order in which you see the notebooks (and hide or delete the sample help notebook) and the possibility to add a completely blank page to a notebook as two columns are not always appropriate.
Since the idea of the two columns with content and comments is so integral to the app, I'd like to be able to position my comments anywhere on the right hand column – in line with what I'm annotating on the left – instead of having to repeatedly press return to get further down. If you create various comments instead of paragraph returns within one, each subsequent comment is placed at the top of the column with a timestamp on it and pushes the previous comment down. I didn't find this intuitive or useful.
zIdeabooks - Promising Productivity Tool for Creatives
Overall, zIdeabooks is a promising app, robustly featured with a pleasant interface that really could really integrate well into the workflow of creatives looking to boost their daily productivity and goal–achievement. Not bad for free*!
*According to the website you can only add 3 notebooks to the free version before needing an in-app purchase of 3.99 for 50 more notebooks. However, so far I have added more than three notebooks without a problem and there is no reference to an in-app purchase on the App store so it may be that this feature has been changed. I am awaiting confirmation from the app developer.
