July began with with a bang when I attended the launch party of the juried show, The Incredible Exploding Pomegranate.Three of my works are in the show - Go with the Flow, The Power of the Small, and The Lost Palace, which, as I mentioned, takes place across two venues. My work is in the the seaside town of Salobreña (the neighbouring town to Almuñécar in which I lived and worked for eight years) in the old hillside part where whitewashed houses tumble down to the sugar cane fields below. Three floors of exhibition space (including the roof terrace) have been created out of a beautifully converted house, (the inspiration of textile artist and theatre designer, Georgina Gordon-Smith) with works hung throughout including up the staircases and in the bathroom! (Call me old-fashioned, but I’m glad mine weren't in there.) On the second floor is an open kitchen where drinks and tapas were served at the opening, accompanied, of course by some soothing live Spanish guitar music. It’s great to be showing in a new venue surrounded by such a variety of art - most of which is new to me as well as to make some new artist friends. I’ve been out of the exhibition circuit for too long and it’s just the spur I needed to get myself back into action. If you’re in the Granada region of Spain this summer, take time out to visit the Incredible Exploding Pomegranate exhibition at El Casino which runs until 13th September. And, of course, let me know - perhaps I can meet you down there! El Casino. Calle Real
