A rare video of Shaun McNiff talking about his own creative process.
This man has, perhaps, the most sophisticated understanding of the creative process of anyone alive.
His name is Shaun McNiff. And I'd be very surprised if you've heard of him.
McNiff's book Trust the Process: An Artist's Guide to Letting Go is the ONE book you need to read as a creative person.
But it's not an easy read. So many creatives will never read it.
That's why I've made it part of my personal coaching mission is to translate some of McNiff's insightful ideas into something more easily digestible.
Art Therapist and Artist
Shaun McNiff is both an art therapist and an artist.
As such he was responsible for establishing the first Expressive Arts Therapy graduate training program at Lesley University where he is still a Professor.
McNiff uses his own experience as an artist to formulate his theories and I suspect that he also uses his theories to help make his art.
Not a Rock Star
But the reason you've probably never heard of Shaun McNiff is that he's not got a rock star personality.
He's not ubiquitous like Steven Pressfield.
You won't find posters of him adorning the window of your local book shop, or him penning witticisms on Twitter.
Unless you read his books, you'll find him pretty hard to track down.
So if you want to save yourself a lot of money on hundreds of books on getting the most out of your creative calling, and you're prepared to give your brain a bit of heavy lifting, read Trust the Process.
I promise you, you'll never be the same.
