Watch this rare video of Shaun McNiff talking about his own creative process and see how he translates the landscapes around him into lively paintings which have a dash of Cezanne, a sprinkling of Van Gogh and a nod to Georgia O'Keeffe.
I would say, 'If there's one book you have to read as a creative person, it's Trust the Process by Shaun McNiff.
But because it's not an easy read, many creatives will never read it. so part of my personal mission - in my coaching and in my book, Blast Your Creative Blocks is to translate some of McNiff's insightful ideas into something more easily digestible.
Art Therapist and Artist
Shaun McNiff is both an art therapist and an artist and was responsible for establishing the first Expressive Arts Therapy graduate training program at Lesley University where he is still a Professor. McNiff uses his own experience as an artist to formulate his theories and I suspect that he also uses his theories to help make his art. He has, perhaps, the most sophisticated understanding of the creative process of anyone alive.
Not a Rock Star
But McNiff has not got a rock star personality. He's not ubiquitous like Seth Godin. You'll not find posters of him adorning the window of your local book shop or penning witticisms on Twitter. Unless you read his books, you'll find him pretty hard to track down.
So, after all, I'd probably say, 'If there's one book you read...'. Alternatively, you can read mine.
